1856 Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. NGC graded MS-65. Some lovely rainbow toning on the obverse. Full glowing mint luster, the color of ice shines forth like a bright white spotlight in the center. Desirable No Motto Type seated quarter dollar. Pop 11; 5 finer in 66 (PCGS # 5438) .

Lot 3940
1870-CC Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. SEGS graded VF-20. Our grade is Fine 15. A scarce date. The strong details include all seven letters in LIBERTY on the shield, complete and full, plus excellent rims and a strong central strike. There is detail aplenty remaining from its sojourn in circulation. The 1870-CC is the key Carson City mint quarter dollar, the first year of issue. It also happens to command attention for an extremely small mintage. Only 8,340 were made. Almost all reached the channels of commerce. Almost all survivors are extensively worn. And collectors since time immemorial have eagerly sought for a pleasing example like this (PCGS # 5477) .
Estimated Value $12,000 - 15,000.

Lot 3941
1875 Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 65 PQ. Lovely intense blue toning on both sides. A razor sharp Gem Proof that has rich frosted devices so deep even the colorful overlay barely inhibits them. Luminous and carefully preserved. Collectors understand that blemish-free mirror luster isn't the only side of a grade, important though that is. So too, the detail, and here the devices are as sharp as can be. Only 700 Proofs struck. Pop 7; 3 in 66. (PCGS # 5576) .

1917 Liberty Standing Quarter Dollar. Type 1. NGC graded MS-65 Full Head. Well struck with nice golden toning. The glistening fields rise and fall with original mint bloom underneath the attractive toning layers of this 1917 Type 1. Against this are set serious, frosty design elements. Even this condition of the luster isn't enough. The supporting strike is just as strong, with clear definition to the high points of Liberty's head and shield, the eagle's breast feathers and outer edge of the wing. A first-rate Gem (PCGS # 5706) .
Estimated Value $900 - 950.

Lot 3949
1918/7-S Liberty Standing Quarter Dollar. NGC graded MS-61. Lightly toned. Popular key date. Seldom available in Mint condition, this precious rarity was first publicized by collectors around 1937. At that time, one of the few Mint State coins was offered in a Bluestone Auction (12/4/37:741) which realized the then astronomical sum of $26.25 (Breen). Collectors everywhere began to look through their change and carefully examine their standing Liberty quarter collections. Yet after much searching, few Mint States have been found, and only a scattering of circulated pieces. To this day, this popular overdate remains one of the most sought-after coins of the 20th Century.

It is easy to see the frosty nature of the luster, and the coin remains silvery gray with accents of toning in the color. No signs of ever having been wiped or cleaned in any way, and this is a very presentable example of a premier rarity.

Note in the photographic enlargements the diagnostic clash marks (from the eagle's wing) below TR of TRUST and the microscopic die dot between the right toes on Liberty's foot and the last star, just in the field near the base. These confirm the genuineness of the coin and are diagnostic to this single die pair. A famous rarity that will no doubt bring a strong price from an advanced standing Liberty quarter specialist. Pop 4; 40 finer.
Estimated Value $18,000 - 19,000.

Lot 3950
1921 Liberty Standing Quarter Dollar. PCGS graded MS-64 Full Head. The obverse is lightly toned. Satin fields rippling with cartwheel luster are just the ticket, but are unusual to find on this semi-key 1921 strike. The more matte designs stand out nicely against this finish. No weak areas, either, just bold relief on the key high points of the design like the head and inner shield, with full rivets showing. Pop 60; 68 finer, 48 in 65, 19 in 66, 1 in 67 (PCGS # 5741) .
